Abstract
One example apparatus includes a shaped charge, and an overmold that includes one or more layers surrounding a portion of the shaped charge. The overmold may contact, and conform to, a case within which the shaped charge is received, and the overmold may further contact, and conform to, a cartridge wall within which the shaped charge and the overmold are positioned. An electrical or electronic component may be partly embedded in the overmold.
Claims40
A shaped charge carrier, comprising:
- a plurality of overmolded energetic assemblies positioned within the shaped charge carrier, each overmolded energetic assembly is configured for independent detonation, each overmolded energetic assembly comprising:
- a liner;
- a case;
- a shaped charge positioned between the liner and the case;
- a detonator located below one end of the case;
- an electrical conductor coupled to the detonator;
- and
- an overmold structure surrounding at least a portion of a corresponding liner, case, shaped charge, detonator, and electrical conductor;
- wherein each overmolded energetic assembly of the plurality is capable of independent detonation without damage to or detonation of any other undetonated shaped charge corresponding to any other overmolded energetic assemblies of the plurality.
A linear array energetic assembly comprising:
- a plurality of shaped charges;
- a plurality of detonators associated with respective shaped charges;
- at least one electrical conductor connecting the detonators to a control device;
- and
- an overmold encapsulating the shaped charges, detonators, and electrical conductor to form a unitary molded energetic module;
- wherein each shaped charge of the plurality is configured to be independently detonated without damage or disruption to any other of the plurality of shaped charges.
An overmolded energetic assembly comprising:
- a shaped charge;
- a detonator;
- a safety interrupter disposed between the detonator and the shaped charge;
- and
- an overmold encapsulating the detonator and the safety interrupter.
