A retention system includes at least one retention arm assembly movable relative to a mast weldment between a stowed position and an engaged position. When the at least one retention arm assembly is in the stowed position, the at least one retention arm assembly is disengaged from a deck bushing of a drilling machine. When the at least one retention arm assembly is in the engaged position, the at least one retention arm assembly is engaged with the deck bushing to retain the deck bushing in a raised state. The retention system also includes at least one actuator adapted to move the at least one retention arm assembly between the stowed position and the engaged position. The at least one actuator is coupled to the mast weldment at a first end and to the at least one retention arm assembly at a second end of the at least one actuator.
