Abstract
A method of operating a of household appliance includes detecting a condition of a power supply system to which the household appliance is connected and setting the household appliance to a reduced power state in response to detecting the condition of the power supply system. The method also includes receiving a command from a home energy management system. In response to the command from the home energy management system, the household appliance resumes full operation.

A method of operating a household appliance, the method comprising:
- detecting, by a controller of the household appliance, a condition of a power supply system to which the household appliance is connected;
- setting, by the controller of the household appliance, the household appliance to a reduced power state in response to detecting the condition of the power supply system;
- receiving a command from a home energy management system;
- and
- resuming full operation of the household appliance in response to the command from the home energy management system.
