A technology for melting a cold iron source with high productivity and reduced electric power unit consumption. Specifically, a method for producing molten iron by melting a cold iron source with electric energy, using an electric furnace, the method including disposing a burner in the electric furnace, the burner including an injection hole that injects a fuel, and an injection hole that injects a combustion-supporting gas, the burner being adapted to inject a flame from the injection hole toward a furnace content in the electric furnace; and when blowing in a powdery or powdered auxiliary raw material such that the auxiliary raw material passes through the flame formed by the burner, adjusting a supply rate of the auxiliary raw material or a supply rate of the fuel for the burner in accordance with a melting condition of the cold iron source in the electric furnace.
