Abstract
A method for producing red blood cells includes culturing pluripotent stem cells to obtain a culture medium including hematopoietic stem cells, obtaining a CD41−/CD34− cell population from the culture medium, and maturing the obtained cell population in a first medium including erythropoietin (EPO). A method for producing red blood cells and platelets includes culturing pluripotent stem cells to obtain a culture medium comprising hematopoietic stem cells, sorting a CD41−/CD34− cell population and a CD41a+ or CD34+ cell population from the culture medium, maturing the sorted CD41−/CD34− cell population in a first medium comprising erythropoietin, and differentiating the sorted CD41a+ or CD34+ cell population into megakaryocytes in a seventh medium.
