A self-activating dipping powder for artificial nail applications is disclosed. The powder comprises glass beads having a pH greater than 7 and less than 10, preferably soda lime borosilicate. The glass beads, which may be solid or hollow with mean particle sizes of 20-55 microns, provide basic surface sites that initiate polymerization of acid-stabilized cyanoacrylate dip bases without the need for a separate activator. Incorporation of the glass beads shortens dry times from over one hour to under ten minutes, allowing activator-free dipping applications. In sculpting applications, the inclusion of glass beads increases the working time window, produces lighter nails, and improves filing and removability. The invention further provides 2-in-1 acrylic and dipping powders, enabling both sculpting and dipping procedures using a single formulation while improving application efficiency and wearer comfort.
