Polymeric Tandem Dyes Having Pendant Narrow Emission Acceptor

A polymeric dye comprising:

• a polymeric backbone;
• and
• a BODIPY dye attached to the polymeric backbone and having a structure of formula (I):
• wherein:
• Q is C;
• R1, R3, and R6 are independently selected from H, alkyl, substituted alkyl, alkoxy, substituted alkoxy, alkenyl, substituted alkenyl, alkynyl, substituted alkynyl, water solubilizing group (WSG), and -L1-Z1, provided that one of R1, R3, and R6 is -L1-Z1;
• L1 is a linker selected from the group consisting of alkyl linker, substituted alkyl linker, alkoxy linker, substituted alkoxy linker, polyethylene glycol (PEG) linker, sulfonamido-alkyl linker, substituted sulfonamido-alkyl linker, amido-alkyl linker, substituted amido-alkyl linker, alkyl-amido-alkyl linker, and substituted alkyl-amido-alkyl linker;
• Z1 is a section of the polymeric backbone;
• R2, R4, R5, and R7 are each methyl;
• and
• Y1 and Y2 are independently selected from F, OH, H, cyano, alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl, substituted aryl, heteroaryl, substituted heteroaryl, alkoxy, substituted alkoxy, alkenyl, substituted alkenyl, alkynyl, substituted alkynyl, and WSG.
