Provided are a composition and a surface treatment agent containing a first compound having a divalent chain group and a reactive silyl group connected to only one terminal of the divalent chain group; and a second compound having a divalent chain group and a reactive silyl group connected to each of respective terminals of the divalent chain group, in which the amount of the second compound with respect to the total amount of the first compound and the second compound is from more than 35 mol % to 95 mol %; and an article having a surface treatment layer formed using the surface treatment agent and a method for producing the article.
