Abstract
Disclosed herein are fluoride-containing ammonium salts and methods of production and uses thereof. For example, methods of producing ammonium fluoride by combining a material comprising a fluorosilicate with an amine are disclosed. In some examples, the material comprising a fluorosilicate comprises a waste product, such as a waste product from ore processing (e.g., phosphate ore processing), fertilizer production, and/or aluminum production and/or refinement.
Claims25
A method, comprising:
- a) combining a material comprising a fluorosilicate with an amine to produce ammonium fluoride;
- b) producing ammonium bifluoride and ammonia from the produced ammonium fluoride;
- c) repeating step a), wherein the amine comprises the ammonia produced in step b);
- and
- d) combining the produced ammonium fluoride and/or ammonium bifluoride with a material comprising silicate including lithium to produce at least ammonium hexafluorosilicate.

A method, comprising:
- a) combining a material comprising a fluorosilicate with an amine to produce ammonium fluoride;
- b) producing ammonium bifluoride from the produced ammonium fluoride, wherein step b) does not produce and/or accumulate a substantial net amount of hydrogen fluoride;
- and
- c) combining the produced ammonium fluoride and/or ammonium bifluoride with a material comprising silicate including lithium to produce at least ammonium hexafluorosilicate.

- a) combining a material comprising a fluorosilicate with an amine to produce ammonium fluoride and/or ammonium bifluoride;
- and
- b) combining the produced ammonium fluoride and/or ammonium bifluoride with a material comprising silicate including lithium to produce at least ammonium hexafluorosilicate.

A method, comprising:
- a) combining a material comprising a fluorosilicate with an amine to produce ammonium fluoride;
- b) producing ammonium bifluoride and ammonia from the produced ammonium fluoride;
- c) combining the produced ammonium fluoride and/or ammonium bifluoride with a material comprising silicate to produce at least ammonium hexafluorosilicate;
- and
- d) repeating step a), wherein the amine comprises the produced ammonia.
A method, comprising:
- a) combining a material comprising a fluorosilicate with an amine to produce ammonium fluoride;
- b) producing ammonium bifluoride and ammonia from the produced ammonium fluoride;
- and
- c) repeating step a), wherein the amine comprises the ammonia produced in step b);
- and
- d) combining the produced ammonium fluoride and/or ammonium bifluoride with a material comprising silicate including spodumene to produce at least ammonium hexafluorosilicate.
