Abstract
A device comprising: a sleeve body defining an internal bore and terminating at a distal opening; a hollow microneedle defining an internal lumen and terminating at a distal pointed tip, wherein the microneedle is configured to be reciprocally displaceable within the internal bore such that the pointed tip extends and retracts through the distal opening; and a plunger having a shaft which is operable for advancing a seal along the internal lumen to deliver a quantity of a specified composition within the lumen along the internal lumen and through an outlet at a distal portion of the microneedle.

A device comprising:
- a sleeve body defining an internal bore and terminating at a distal opening;
- a hollow microneedle defining an internal lumen and terminating at a distal pointed tip having an outlet, wherein said microneedle is configured to be reciprocally displaceable within said internal bore such that said pointed tip extends and retracts through said distal opening;
- an aperture in a sidewall of said microneedle which provides communication between a reservoir storing a specified composition and said internal lumen, to allow for ingress of a quantity of said specified composition from said reservoir into said internal lumen;
- and
- a plunger having a shaft which is operable for advancing a seal along said internal lumen to collect said quantity of said specified composition communicated into said internal lumen and to deliver at least a portion of said quantity of said specified composition through said outlet.

A method comprising:
- providing a device comprising:
- a sleeve body defining an internal bore and terminating at a distal opening,
- a hollow microneedle defining an internal lumen and terminating at a distal pointed tip having an outlet, wherein said microneedle is configured to be reciprocally displaceable within said internal bore such that said pointed tip extends and retracts through said distal opening,
- an aperture in a sidewall of said microneedle which provides communication between a reservoir storing a specified composition and said internal lumen, to allow for ingress of a quantity of a specified composition from said reservoir into said internal lumen, and
- a plunger having a shaft which is operable for advancing a seal along said internal lumen to collect said quantity of said specified composition communicated into said internal lumen and to deliver at least a portion of said quantity of said specified composition through said outlet;
- locating said device at an injection site about a skin of a subject;
- displacing said microneedle within said internal bore such that said pointed tip extends a predetermined distance through said distal opening into a dermal layer or hypodermal layer of said skin of said subject;
- and
- operating said shaft to advance said seal along said internal lumen to deliver said at least a portion of said quantity of said specified composition through said outlet, into said dermal or hypodermal layers.
