Docking device for wheelchairs

Abstract

A docking device is shown for being mounted on, preferably beneath, a wheelchair and adapted for releasably securing a wheelchair to the floor of a transport vehicle. The docking device includes a) a base unit; b) fastening means adapted for securing the docking device to, preferably beneath, the wheelchair, the fastening means being mounted on the base unit; c) a first female or male docking fixture adapted for locking engagement with a second male or female docking fixture mounted to the floor of a transport vehicle, the docking fixture being directly or indirectly mounted to the base unit; d) a first leveling mechanism adapted for displacing the first docking fixture up and down relative to the base unit; and e) a second leveling mechanism adapted for tilting the first docking fixture relative to the base unit.
