Abstract
An apparatus, method and computer-readable media are disclosed for accessing a wireless network. For example, a process for accessing to a wireless network can include: determining, at a radio link control (RLC) layer, that a RLC protocol data unit (PDU) is to be protected using medium access control (MAC) layer security; transmitting a first RLC PDU with a security indication for MAC layer security to a MAC layer; and applying MAC layer security to a MAC subPDU based on the security indication, wherein the MAC subPDU is generated based on the first RLC PDU.

An apparatus for securing communications for a wireless network, comprising:
- a memory;
- and
- a processor coupled to the memory and configured to:
- determine, at a radio link control (RLC) layer, that a RLC protocol data unit (PDU) is to be protected using medium access control (MAC) layer security;
- transmit a first RLC PDU with a security indication for MAC layer security to a MAC layer;
- and
- apply MAC layer security to a MAC subPDU based on the security indication, wherein the MAC subPDU is generated based on the first RLC PDU.
A method for securing communications for a wireless network, comprising:
- determining, at a radio link control (RLC) layer, that a RLC protocol data unit (PDU) is to be protected using medium access control (MAC) layer security;
- transmitting a first RLC PDU with a security indication for MAC layer security to a MAC layer;
- and
- applying MAC layer security to a MAC subPDU based on the security indication, wherein the MAC subPDU is based on the first RLC PDU.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to:
- determine, at a radio link control (RLC) layer, that a RLC protocol data unit (PDU) is to be protected using medium access control (MAC) layer security;
- transmit a first RLC PDU with a security indication for MAC layer security to a MAC layer;
- and
- apply MAC layer security to a MAC subPDU based on the security indication, wherein the MAC subPDU is generated based on the first RLC PDU.
