Abstract

A communication method and apparatus are provided. The method includes: A source base station sends a handover request message to a candidate base station, to request a configuration of a candidate cell; and the candidate base station obtains key information from a core network device based on the handover request message, and sends key information and the configuration of the candidate cell to the source base station. Alternatively, a source base station derives a security key for a candidate base station, and sends the security key to the candidate base station. According to the foregoing method, candidate base stations may respectively maintain key information, to avoid a security issue of inter-gNB LTM; or the source base station may maintain key information, and derive a security key for a candidate base station, to avoid a security issue of inter-gNB LTM.

Dependent claims

A communication method, applied to a second access network device, and comprising:

receiving a first request message from a first access network device, wherein the first request message is for requesting a configuration of a first candidate cell;
obtaining first key information and second key information from a core network device based on the first request message, wherein the first key information identifies the second key information, the second key information is used for security protection of data between a terminal device and the second access network device, and the first key information and the second key information correspond to the first candidate cell;
and
sending a first response message to the first access network device, wherein the first response message comprises the configuration of the first candidate cell and the first key information.

at least one processor;
and
a memory coupled to the at least one processor and configured to store executable instructions for execution by the at least one processor to instruct the at least one processor to:
receive a first request message from a first access network device, wherein the first request message is for requesting a configuration of a first candidate cell;
obtain first key information and second key information from a core network device based on the first request message, wherein the first key information identifies the second key information, the second key information is used for security protection of data between a terminal device and the second access network device, and the first key information and the second key information correspond to the first candidate cell;
and
send a first response message to the first access network device, wherein the first response message comprises the configuration of the first candidate cell and the first key information.
