Abstract

Systems and methods for presenting user-selectable options for parental control in response to detecting a triggering action by a user are disclosed. A system generates for output a first content item on a device. The system identifies a first user and a second user in proximity to the device and determines that a first gesture is performed by the first user wherein the first gesture is covering the eyes of the second user. In response to determining that the first gesture is performed, the system presents a selectable option for a user input such as (a) skipping a portion of the first content item; (b) lowering the volume; (c) removing the video of the first content item; or (d) presenting a second content item instead of presenting the first content item. In response to receiving a user input selecting the selectable option, the system performs an action corresponding to the selectable option.

Dependent claims

A method comprising:

receiving, from a first device, first data indicating a content restriction option applied to a first segment of a content item, wherein the application of the content restriction option was triggered by a physical gesture detected at the first device;
generating a metadata tag associated with the content item, the metadata tag comprising a segment identifier for the first segment and an indication of the applied content restriction option;
storing the metadata tag in a database;
receiving, from a second device, a request to access the content item;
and
transmitting, to the second device, the metadata tag and at least a portion of the content item, wherein the metadata tag is configured to cause the second device to generate for display a predictive alert prior to playback of the first segment on the second device, the predictive alert including a user-selectable option to apply the content restriction option.

control circuitry configured to:
receive, from a first device, using the input/output circuitry, first data indicating a content restriction option applied to a first segment of a content item, wherein the application of the content restriction option was triggered by a physical gesture detected at the first device;
generate a metadata tag associated with the content item, the metadata tag comprising a segment identifier for the first segment and an indication of the applied content restriction option;
store the metadata tag in a database;
receive, from a second device, using the input/output circuitry, a request to access the content item;
and
transmit, to the second device, using the input/output circuitry, the metadata tag and at least a portion of the content item, wherein the metadata tag is configured to cause the second device to generate for display a predictive alert prior to playback of the first segment on the second device, the predictive alert including a user-selectable option to apply the content restriction option.
