Methods and Apparatus for Enabling Selection of UE Receiver Capability

A method in a User Equipment (UE), the method comprising:

• transmitting, to a network node connected to the UE, UE receiver capability information indicating a Multiuser-Multiple Input Multiple Output (MU-MIMO) receiver capability supported by the UE, wherein the MU-MIMO receiver capability includes at least one advanced MU-MIMO receiver capability;
• reporting, to the network node, UE Assistance Information (UAI) indicating the UE's preference on an MU-MIMO receiver capability;
• receiving, from the network node, Network Assistance Information (NAI) that is determined by the network node based on the UE receiver capability information and the reported UAI;
• and
• receiving data from the network node by using an MU-MIMO receiver capability based on the received NAI.

A User Equipment (UE), comprising:

• a processor;
• and
• a memory storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the UE to:
• transmit, to a network node connected to the UE, UE receiver capability information indicating a Multiuser-Multiple Input Multiple Output (MU-MIMO) receiver capability supported by the UE, wherein the MU-MIMO receiver capability includes at least one advanced MU-MIMO receiver capability;
• report, to the network node, UE Assistance Information (UAI) indicating the UE's preference on an MU-MIMO receiver capability;
• receive, from the network node, Network Assistance Information (NAI) that is determined by the network node based on the UE receiver capability information and the reported UAI;
• and
• receive data from the network node by using an MU-MIMO receiver capability based on the received NAI.

A method in a network node, the method comprising:

• receiving, from a User Equipment (UE) connected to the network node, UE receiver capability information indicating a Multiuser-Multiple Input Multiple Output (MU-MIMO) receiver capability supported by the UE, wherein the MU-MIMO receiver capability includes at least one advanced MU-MIMO receiver capability;
• receiving, from the UE, a report of UE Assistance Information (UAI) indicating the UE's preference on an MU-MIMO receiver capability;
• and
• providing, to the UE, Network Assistance Information (NAI), wherein the NAI is based on a MIMO transmission scheme to be used, the UE receiver capability information and the UAI.

A network node, comprising:

• a processor;
• and
• a memory storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the network node to:
• receive, from a User Equipment (UE) connected to the network node, UE receiver capability information indicating a Multiuser-Multiple Input Multiple Output (MU-MIMO) receiver capability supported by the UE, wherein the MU-MIMO receiver capability includes at least one advanced MU-MIMO receiver capability;
• receive, from the UE, a report of UE Assistance Information (UAI) indicating the UE's preference on an MU-MIMO receiver capability;
• and
• provide, to the UE, Network Assistance Information (NAI), wherein the NAI is based on a MIMO transmission scheme to be used, the UE receiver capability information and the UAI.
