Abstract
A laser system including a seed laser, a laser beam splitting and combining subsystem receiving an output from the seed laser and providing a combined laser output having noise and a noise cancellation subsystem operative to provide a noise cancellation phase correction output based on taking into consideration the noise at intermittent times, the laser beam splitting and combining subsystem varying a phase of the combined laser output during time interstices between the intermittent times.

A coherent beam combining (CBC) laser system comprising:
- a seed laser providing a laser output;
- a laser beam splitting and combining subsystem operative to receive said laser output from said seed laser and provide a coherently combined laser output, said laser beam splitting and combining subsystem comprising an amplifier operative to amplify said laser output;
- a detector operative to detect said laser output and to deactivate said amplifier, based on said detected laser output, upon detection of failure of said seed laser;
- and
- a seed-laser failure protection subsystem operative to protect said amplifier from damage in the event of said failure of said seed laser.
A method for preventing damage to an amplifier in a coherent beam combining (CBC) laser comprising:
- providing, by a seed laser, a laser output;
- amplifying, splitting and coherently combining said laser output;
- detecting said laser output during said amplifying, splitting and coherent combining thereof;
- deactivating said amplifier upon detection of failure of said seed laser, based on said detected laser output;
- and
- protecting said amplifier from damage in the event of said failure of said seed laser and prior to the deactivation thereof.
