Abstract
A gel electrolyte comprising a polymer, a get solvent and a compound of formula (I): wherein X is Al or B; R1 in each occurrence is independently a substituent and two R groups may be linked to form a ring; and M+ is a cation. The gel electrolyte may be used in a metal battery or a metal ion battery.

A gel electrolyte comprising a polymer, a gel solvent and a compound of formula (I):
- wherein X is Al or B;
- R1 in each occurrence is independently a substituent and two R1 groups may be linked to form a ring;
- and M+ is a cation.
