Real-time parking location dimension, obstruction, and restriction information and systems and methods for managing the same

Abstract

A system, method, and participating vehicle for managing parking availability in an area are disclosed. The system includes a parking system configured to receive sensor data transmitted by one or more vehicles which relate to parking availability in an area and the effective size of parking locations, such as due to obstructions, relative to an expected size of those locations. With this information, the parking system can, in real time, provide parking availability information to incoming vehicles based on whether those incoming vehicles will fit within the effective size of the parking locations, thereby increasing the utilization of parking locations which may be only partially blocked or which may have additional room which may not be reflected by standard parking location dimensions.
