Abstract
Disclosed herein are system, apparatus, article of manufacture, method and/or computer program product embodiments, and/or combinations and sub-combinations thereof, for altering the appearance of electronic devices. An example process can include obtaining a visibility configuration for altering an appearance of an exterior surface of an electronic device; and modifying at least a portion of the exterior surface of the electronic device based on the visibility configuration.
Claims20
A system comprising:
- one or more memories;
- and
- one or more processors coupled to the one or more memories and configured to perform operations comprising:
- determining a contextual cue associated with an electronic device, the contextual cue indicating at least one of an environmental condition in a scene associated with the electronic device, a sound condition in the scene, and a user-presence detection result associated with the electronic device, wherein the sound condition comprises a presence or absence of at least one of a specific sound, a specific type of sound, and a specific sound characteristic, and wherein the user-presence detection result comprises at least one of data indicating whether a person was detected in the scene and data indicating a detected identity of the person;
- in response to the contextual cue, terminating a reduced-visibility mode of the electronic device, wherein the reduced-visibility mode is configured to implement a display setting that modifies an appearance of the electronic device via a lower-visibility output by a display of the electronic device, and wherein the lower-visibility output comprises a visual output associated with a first visibility metric representing a lower appearance-based visibility than a second visibility metric associated with an appearance-based visibility of the electronic device without the visual output;
- and
- in response to terminating the reduced-visibility mode, modifying the appearance of the electronic device according to the lower appearance-based visibility, wherein modifying the appearance of the electronic device comprises removing, disabling, or changing the lower-visibility output comprising the visual output associated with the first visibility metric.
A computer-implemented method comprising:
- determining a contextual cue associated with an electronic device, the contextual cue indicating at least one of an environmental condition in a scene associated with the electronic device, a sound condition in the scene, and a user-presence detection result associated with the electronic device, wherein the sound condition comprises a presence or absence of at least one of a specific sound, a specific type of sound, and a specific sound characteristic, and wherein the user-presence detection result comprises at least one of data indicating whether a person was detected in the scene and data indicating a detected identity of the person;
- in response to the contextual cue, terminating a reduced-visibility mode of the electronic device, wherein the reduced-visibility mode is configured to implement a display setting that modifies an appearance of the electronic device via a lower-visibility output by a display of the electronic device, and wherein the lower-visibility output comprises a visual output associated with a first visibility metric representing a lower appearance-based visibility than a second visibility metric associated with an appearance-based visibility of the electronic device without the visual output;
- and
- in response to terminating the reduced-visibility mode, modifying the appearance of the electronic device according to the lower appearance-based visibility, wherein modifying the appearance of the electronic device comprises removing, disabling, or changing the lower-visibility output comprising the visual output associated with the first visibility metric.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium having instructions stored thereon that, when executed by at least one computing device, cause the at least one computing device to perform operations comprising:
- determining a contextual cue associated with an electronic device, the contextual cue indicating at least one of an environmental condition in a scene associated with the electronic device, a sound condition in the scene, and a user-presence detection result associated with the electronic device, wherein the sound condition comprises a presence or absence of at least one of a specific sound, a specific type of sound, and a specific sound characteristic, and wherein the user-presence detection result comprises at least one of data indicating whether a person was detected in the scene and data indicating a detected identity of the person;
- in response to the contextual cue, terminating a reduced-visibility mode of the electronic device, wherein the reduced-visibility mode is configured to implement a display setting that modifies an appearance of the electronic device via a lower-visibility output by a display of the electronic device, and wherein the lower-visibility output comprises a visual output associated with a first visibility metric representing a lower appearance-based visibility than a second visibility metric associated with an appearance-based visibility of the electronic device without the visual output;
- and
- in response to terminating the reduced-visibility mode, modifying the appearance of the electronic device according to the lower appearance-based visibility, wherein modifying the appearance of the electronic device comprises removing, disabling, or changing the lower-visibility output comprising the visual output associated with the first visibility metric.
