Abstract
An embodiment detects, in a system diagnostic service, that a system health status metric has a value in a failure range of values. An embodiment detects, in the system diagnostic service by comparing a fan speed setting to a fan speed reading, that a system fan fails to satisfy an operational criterion. An embodiment generates, in the system diagnostic service, responsive to detecting that the system health status metric has a value in the failure range of values and detecting that the system fan fails to satisfy the operational criterion, a dust filter maintenance notification.

A computer-implemented method comprising:
- training a health status prediction model to predict a dust filter state and a corresponding value of a system health status metric from system diagnostic event data, the training performed using a training dataset comprising dust filter maintenance interval data, system diagnostic event data within a dust filter maintenance interval, and data of a dust filter state during the dust filter maintenance interval;
- predicting, in a system diagnostic service executing in a computer system, using the health status prediction model, a first value of a system health status metric from at least one system diagnostic event, the at least one system diagnostic event detected at the system diagnostic service, the at least one system diagnostic event comprising data collected by a device monitoring service executing in an embedded controller of the computer system and communicated to the system diagnostic service using a communications service executing in the embedded controller, the at least one system diagnostic event comprising an acoustic alert;
- detecting, in the system diagnostic service, that the predicted first value of the system health status metric is in a failure range of values;
- performing, while the predicted first value of the system health status metric is in a failure range of values, a fan speed test on a system fan installed in the computer system, wherein performing the fan speed test comprises setting, using an embedded controller service of the computer system, the system fan to a fan speed setting of 3000 revolutions per minute, reading, using the embedded controller, a fan speed reading, and detecting, in the system diagnostic service by comparing the fan speed setting to the fan speed reading, that the system fan fails to satisfy an operational criterion;
- and
- generating, in the system diagnostic service, while the predicted first value of the system health status metric has a value in the failure range of values and responsive to detecting that the system fan fails to satisfy the operational criterion, a dust filter maintenance notification, the dust filter notification notifying a user that a dust filter installed in the computer system filter requires maintenance.
