Sub-wave pairing in graphics processing

A method of graphics processing, comprising:

• obtaining an indication of a work group size for each of a set of waves associated with a set of workloads for the graphics processing;
• determining whether the work group size is less than or equal to a threshold portion of a size of a plurality of resources for each of the set of waves, wherein each of the set of waves includes a plurality of fibers;
• and
• combining at least two waves in the set of waves based on the work group size being less than or equal to the threshold portion of the size of the plurality of resources for each of the set of waves.

A computer-readable medium storing computer executable code for graphics processing, the code when executed by at least one processor causes the at least one processor to:

• obtain an indication of a work group size for each of a set of waves associated with a set of workloads for the graphics processing;
• determine whether the work group size is less than or equal to a threshold portion of a size of a plurality of resources for each of the set of waves, wherein each of the set of waves includes a plurality of fibers;
• and
• combine at least two waves in the set of waves based on the work group size being less than or equal to the threshold portion of the size of the plurality of resources for each of the set of waves.
