Abstract
A system and method for updating a network of automated machines is disclosed. The method including the steps of connecting a portable storage device to a first automated machine having a processing device, a storage device, a communications interface, and a memory device, the automated machine being connected to a network for receiving software updates; using the network, updating the software stored on a partition of the storage device; copying the updated software stored on the partition onto the portable storage device; and using the portable storage device to update a second automated machine.
Claims20
A method of updating a network of automated machines, comprising:
- connecting a portable storage device to a first automated machine having a processing device, a storage device, a communications interface, and a memory device, the automated machine being connected to a network for receiving software updates;
- using the network, updating the software stored on a partition of the storage device;
- copying the updated software stored on the partition onto the portable storage device;
- and
- using the portable storage device to update a second automated machine.
A method of updating a network of automated machines, comprising:
- using a computing system to provide software updates to the network of automated machines, the computing system having at least one processor, a communication interface communicatively coupled to the at least one processor, a storage device and a memory device storing executable code that, when executed causes the at least one processor to:
- remotely access a partition of a storage device of each automated machine;
- verify a software version stored on the partition;
- compare the software version on the partition to a software version on the storage device of the computing system;
- and
- update the software version on the partition if the software version on the partition has a version number preceding a version number on the storage device of the computing system;
- connecting a portable storage device to at least one of the automated machines;
- using the portable storage device on the at least one automated machine to automatically install software from the partition to the portable storage device;
- and
- using the portable storage device to install software from the portable storage device to a partition on a second automated machine.
A system for updating a network of automated machines, comprising:
- a computing system connected to the automated machines by a network, the computing system having:
- a processing device;
- a storage device storing software thereon;
- a communication interface communicatively coupled to the processing device;
- and
- a memory device storing executable code that, when executed causes the processing device to transmit a software update from the storage device through the network to each of the automated machines connected to the network;
- and
- a portable storage device removably connected to at least one of the automated machines connected to the network, the at least one automated machine providing a bridge between the computing system and the portable storage device, wherein when the portable storage device is connected to the at least one automated machine, the at least one automated machine installs the software update onto the portable storage device, the portable storage device then being used to install the software update onto another automated machine.
