Method, apparatus, and system for wireless sensing measurement and reporting

A sensing responder device in a wireless communication network, comprising:

• a receiver configured to:
• receive a sensing measurement setup request from a sensing initiator device in the wireless communication network based on a standard wireless network protocol, wherein the sensing measurement setup request indicates an additional sensing responder device in the wireless communication network,
• receive, from the sensing initiator device, a P2P-sensing-triggering frame, a sensing NDP Announcement (NDPA) frame, or a trigger frame (TF) indicating an upcoming sensing transmission during a sensing session, and
• receive a wireless sounding signal directly from the additional sensing responder device through a wireless channel during the sensing session;
• a processor configured to:
• generate sensing measurement results based on the received wireless sounding signal from the additional sensing responder device, and
• generate a sensing measurement report containing the sensing measurement results during the sensing session;
• and
• a transmitter configured to transmit the sensing measurement report to the sensing initiator device during the sensing session.

A wireless sensing system, comprising:

• a sensing initiator device;
• a first sensing responder device;
• and
• a second sensing responder device, wherein:
• the sensing initiator device is configured to transmit configuration messages to the first sensing responder device and the second sensing responder device to establish a peer-to-peer sensing session,
• the first sensing responder device is configured to transmit a Null Data Packet (NDP) directly to the second sensing responder device during the peer-to-peer sensing session in response to a P2P-sensing-triggering frame, a sensing NDP Announcement (NDPA) frame, or a trigger frame (TF) received from the sensing initiator device, and
• the second sensing responder device is configured to measure channel information (CI) based on the NDP received from the first sensing responder device and to report the CI to the sensing initiator device during the peer-to-peer sensing session.

A method performed by a sensing initiator device in a wireless communication network, comprising:

• transmitting a sensing measurement setup request to a first sensing responder device and a second sensing responder device based on a standard wireless network protocol;
• configuring, via the sensing measurement setup request, the first sensing responder device to function as a sensing transmitter for a sensing session;
• configuring, via the sensing measurement setup request, the second sensing responder device to function as a sensing receiver for the sensing session;
• transmitting a P2P-sensing-triggering frame, a sensing NDP Announcement (NDPA) frame, or a trigger frame (TF) to the first sensing responder device to cause the first sensing responder device to transmit a wireless sounding signal directly to the second sensing responder device;
• and
• generating sensing measurement results at the second sensing responder device, wherein the sensing measurement results are consumed locally at a higher layer of the second sensing responder device without reporting non-locally to the sensing initiator device.
