Abstract
An example magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system uses magnetic fields and radio frequency waves to generate anatomical images of a biological organism, such as a human body, for example. The example MRI system can implement a prospective gating technique, such as cardiac gating and/or respiratory gating, to provide some examples, to improve the image quality of the anatomical images. The prospective gating technique utilizes one or more physiological events of the biological organism to trigger the example MRI system to image the biological organism at specific times to improve the image quality of the anatomical images, compensating example for interference that may be introduced by the magnetic fields and/or the radio frequency waves.
Claims20
A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system for generating an anatomical image of a patient, the MRI system comprising:
- an imaging machine configured to apply magnetic fields and radio frequency waves to a patient within the imaging machine to acquire an image data signal indicative of compositions of tissues within a spatial location of the patient;
- a gating signal transmitter configured to:
- receive a physiological event signal corresponding to a physiological event of the patient,
- perform gradient offset compensation on a plurality of samples of the physiological event signal to reduce a plurality of offsets to provide one or more representative samples from among the plurality of samples, and
- perform digital gradient rejection on the one or more representative samples to reduce interference from the one or more representative samples to generate a gating signal for triggering acquisition of the image data signal;
- and
- a control system configured to synchronize the image data signal to the physiological event and trigger acquisition of the image data signal by the imaging machine in response to the gating signal.
A method of generating an anatomical image of a patient using a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system, the method comprising:
- receiving, by the MRI system, a physiological event signal corresponding to a physiological event of the patient;
- performing, by the MRI system, gradient offset compensation on a plurality of samples of the physiological event signal to provide one or more representative samples from among the plurality of samples;
- performing, by the MRI system, digital gradient rejection on the one or more representative samples to reduce interference and generate a gating signal;
- and
- initiating, by the MRI system, acquisition of an image data signal by an imaging machine in response to the gating signal.
A gating signal transmitter for a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system, the gating signal transmitter comprising:
- a memory configured to store a physiological event signal corresponding to a physiological event of a patient;
- and
- a processor configured to execute instructions stored in the memory, the instructions, when executed by the processor, configuring the processor to:
- perform gradient offset compensation on a plurality of samples of the physiological event signal to reduce a plurality of offsets to provide one or more representative samples from among the plurality of samples, and
- perform digital gradient rejection on the one or more representative samples to reduce interference from the one or more representative samples to generate a gating signal for triggering acquisition of an image data signal of the patient.
