Abstract
A bolt action firearm includes a receiver, a barrel coupled to the receiver, and a bolt assembly configured to operate within the receiver. The bolt assembly includes a bolt body, a bolt head coupled to the bolt body and having a clearance machined into a side of the bolt head, a front baffle configured to at least partially surround the bolt head, and a firing pin assembly including a hammer and a separate firing pin. The front baffle optionally is removable from the bolt head when rotated to a specific angle relative to the bolt head. The hammer is configured to actuate the firing pin. A magazine is configured to feed rimfire cartridges and has feed lips positioned to interface with the clearance of the bolt head during operation of the bolt assembly.
Claims20
A bolt action firearm, comprising:
- a receiver;
- a barrel coupled to the receiver;
- a bolt assembly configured to operate within the receiver, the bolt assembly including:
- a bolt body;
- a bolt head coupled to the bolt body and having a clearance machined into a side of the bolt head;
- a front baffle configured to at least partially surround the bolt head, the front baffle being removable from the bolt head when rotated to a specific angle relative to the bolt head;
- and
- a firing pin assembly including a hammer and a separate firing pin, wherein the hammer is configured to actuate the firing pin;
- and
- a magazine configured to feed rimfire cartridges, the magazine having feed lips positioned to interface with the clearance of the bolt head during operation of the bolt assembly.
A method of operating a bolt action rimfire firearm, comprising:
- providing a bolt assembly including a bolt body, a bolt head coupled to the bolt body, and a front baffle at least partially surrounding the bolt head;
- rotating the bolt assembly to an unlocked position;
- retracting the bolt assembly to extract a spent cartridge case;
- advancing the bolt assembly to chamber a new cartridge from a magazine, wherein the bolt head includes a clearance machined into a side to provide space for feed lips of the magazine during the advancing;
- and
- rotating the bolt assembly to a locked position, wherein locking occurs at a front portion of a receiver of the firearm.
A bolt assembly for a rimfire firearm, comprising:
- a bolt body;
- a bolt head coupled to the bolt body, the bolt head including a clearance machined into a side of the bolt head;
- a front baffle configured to at least partially surround the bolt head, the front baffle being reversible to provide at least two different bolt stroke lengths;
- and
- a two-piece firing pin assembly including a hammer positioned in a rear portion of the bolt assembly and a separate firing pin positioned in the bolt head, wherein the hammer is configured to actuate the firing pin upon release.
