Abstract
Described herein are improved methods, systems, and kits for installing vapor barrier in buildings that allows the vapor barrier to be both easily installed, as well as easily removed and reinstalled without damaging the vapor barrier and/or the walls/structure of the building wherein the vapor barrier is installed.
Claims20
A rail assembly for securing a flexible barrier to a building structure, the rail assembly comprising:
- a base rail member having a symmetrical cross‑section with opposing catch grips and a base rail channel;
- a molding rail member having a first leg and a second leg, the first leg being elongated relative to the second leg;
- the molding rail member defining an engagement ledge that extends beyond an outer edge of the base rail member, the molding rail member further including an engagement feature configured to slide into the base rail channel and engage the opposing catch grips;
- wherein the engagement forms a mechanical interlock between the base rail member and the molding rail member without adhesives or separate interlocking fasteners, and
- wherein the mechanical interlock is configured as releasable to permit repeated disassembly and reassembly while maintaining the integrity of the flexible barrier.
2 more elements
A method of securing a flexible barrier to a building structure, comprising:
- affixing a base rail member to the building structure, the base rail member having opposing catch grips and a base rail channel;
- positioning the flexible barrier against the base rail member;
- pressing a molding rail member against the base rail member to slide a hook‑like engagement feature into the base rail channel and engage the opposing catch grips with interior ledges on first and second legs of the molding rail member, thereby capturing a portion of the flexible barrier between the base rail member and the molding rail member;
- and
- wherein the molding rail member defines an engagement ledge that extends beyond an outer edge of the base rail member to resist barrier disengagement under compressive loads.
