Abstract
A decorated natural leather having a decorative image inkjet printed with radiation curable inkjet inks on a crusted leather having a pigmented basecoat on the grain side of the crusted leather, wherein the decorative image is covered by a topcoat and wherein a barrier layer containing a thiol polymer having a molecular weight Mw of at least 500 g/mol is present on the basecoat and/or in the topcoat. A method for manufacturing the decorated natural leather is also disclosed.

A decorated natural leather having a decorative image inkjet printed with radiation curable inkjet inks on a crusted leather having a pigmented basecoat on the grain side of the crusted leather, wherein the decorative image is covered by a topcoat and wherein a barrier layer containing a thiol polymer having a molecular weight Mw of at least 500 g/mol is present on the basecoat and/or in the topcoat.
A method of manufacturing decorated natural leather comprising the steps of applying, in order, on a pigmented basecoat present on the grain side of a crusted leather:
- a) optionally a barrier layer containing a thiol polymer having a molecular weight Mw of at least 500 g/mol;
- b) an ink layer by inkjet printing radiation curable inkjet inks;
- and
- c) a topcoat including a topcoat layer and/or optionally a barrier layer containing a thiol polymer having a molecular weight Mw of at least 500 g/mol;
- with the proviso that at least one of the barrier layers in step a) and c) is applied.
