Abstract
The present disclosure relates to cancer subtype identifiers, which classify tumors and methods based thereon. Further it relates to methods and kits for predicting the prognosis for a subject suffering from cancer. Moreover, it relates to methods for treating a subject suffering from cancer. Further, the disclosure relates to the use of cancer subtype identifiers.
Claims18
A method for classifying tumors using a cancer subtype identifier based on
- percent spliced-in (PSI) values based on the occurrence of at least one mutually exclusive exon usage event, or
- expression of small nuclear RNAs or
- expression of predictive protein-coding genes, or
- a combination thereof,
- wherein the tumor is classified as MXE1 subtype and MXE2 subtype.
A method for predicting the prognosis for a subject suffering from cancer the method comprising using a cancer subtype identifier based on PSI values based on an occurrence of at least one mutually exclusive exon usage event, and/or expression of small nuclear RNAs and/or expression of protein-coding genes comprising the steps:
- a) collecting a sample from a tumor and/or body fluid and/or body excretion of a subject;
- b) determining at least one of
- the PSI values based on the occurrence of at least one mutually exclusive exon usage event,
- deregulation of the expression of small nuclear RNAs,
- expression of subtype predictive protein-coding genes, and
- combinations thereof;
- c) converting of values of step b) into a rating scale to indicate the disease prognosis.
A method for administering an anti tumor treatment to a subject suffering from cancer the method comprising using a cancer subtype identifier based on PSI values based on an occurrence of at least one mutually exclusive exon event, and/or the deregulation of expression of small nuclear RNAs and/or deregulation of expression of subtype predictive protein-coding genes comprising the steps:
- a′) collecting a sample from a tumor and/or body fluid and/or body excretion of a subject;
- b′) determining at least one of
- the PSI values based on the occurrence of at least one mutually exclusive exon usage event,
- deregulation of the expression of small nuclear RNAs,
- expression of subtype predictive protein-coding genes,
- combinations thereof;
- c′) conversion of the values of step b) into a rating scale to indicate the disease prognosis by classifying the tumors as MXE1 subtype or MXE2 subtype;
- d′) subjecting the subject to an anti tumor treatment if the rating scale indicates that the subject is likely to experience an increased progression of the disease.
