A system including a packing machine, a control device and a monitoring device, the monitoring device includes at least one sensor device and one computing device and the machine includes a filling module with a filling spout. The computing device checks data collected by the sensor device to predetermined conditions with the aid of an evaluation based on an automated application. The automated application has at least one of an AI application and a computer vision application. In the method for operating such a system, it is concluded that there is a specific event based on the evaluation of the data from the sensor device on the basis of the automated application and a correspondingly predetermined action is initiated. Also disclosed is the use of an automated application having at least one of an AI application and a computer vision application in the monitoring of events on a packaging machine.
