Abstract

A luggage compartment for an aircraft, comprising: a luggage compartment housing, a bucket with a bottom and two side walls for receiving a piece of luggage, a hinge defining a pivot axis between the luggage compartment housing and the bucket, wherein the bucket can be lowered by pivoting about the hinge from a raised storage position into a lowered loading position, a cover element, which in the storage position of the bucket closes a loading opening of the bucket and in the loading position releases the loading opening of the bucket, wherein the cover element is movable from a closing position closing the loading opening into an opening position releasing the loading opening when the bucket is lowered from the storage position into the loading position.
