Abstract
A steer-by-wire system is provided. The steer-by-wire system includes: a first powerpack and a second powerpack, and a steering rack operably coupled to the first powerpack and the second powerpack, the steering rack configured to be linearly movable in response to rotation of motors of the first and second powerpacks. The first powerpack further includes a time generator circuit that is configured to generate and provide a motor position timing to controllers of both the first and second powerpacks, and the time generator circuit is a sole motor position timestamp generating component between the first powerpack and the second powerpack of the steer-by-wire system.
Claims20
A steer-by-wire system comprising:
- a first powerpack comprising:
- a first motor,
- a first motor position sensor configured to sense a first powerpack motor position of the first motor,
- a first controller configured to receive the first powerpack motor position from the first motor position sensor and to control the first motor, and
- a time generator circuit;
- a second powerpack comprising:
- a second motor,
- a second motor position sensor configured to sense a second powerpack motor position of the second motor, and
- a second controller configured to receive the second powerpack motor position from the second motor position sensor and to control the second motor;
- and
- a steering rack operably coupled to the first motor of the first powerpack and the second motor of the second powerpack, the steering rack configured to be linearly movable in response to rotation of at least one of the first motor and the second motor,
- wherein the time generator circuit of the first powerpack is configured to generate and provide a motor position timing to both the first controller and the second controller, the time generator circuit being a sole motor position timestamp generating component between the first powerpack and the second powerpack of the steer-by-wire system.
A method performed by a steer-by-wire system, the method comprising:
- receiving, by a first controller of a first powerpack of the steer-by-wire system and at a first instance in time:
- a first motor position of a first motor of the first powerpack that is measured by a first motor position sensor of the first powerpack, and
- a motor position timing measured by a time generator circuit of the first powerpack;
- appending, by the first controller, the first motor position and the motor position timing to obtain a first combined motor position with timestamp reading for the first powerpack;
- transmitting, by the first controller, the first combined motor position with timestamp reading for the first powerpack to a second controller of a second powerpack of the steer-by-wire system;
- retrieving, by the second controller, the motor position timing from the first combined motor position with timestamp reading for the first powerpack;
- appending, by the second controller, the motor position timing to a second motor position of a second motor of the second powerpack to obtain a second combined motor position with timestamp reading for the second powerpack, the second motor position being measured and provided to the second controller by a second motor position sensor of the second powerpack;
- and
- transmitting, by the second controller, the second combined motor position with timestamp reading for the second powerpack to the first controller,
- wherein the steer-by-wire system further comprises a steering rack operably coupled to the first motor of the first powerpack and the second motor of the second powerpack, the steering rack configured to be linearly movable in response to rotation of at least one of the first motor and the second motor, and
- wherein the time generator circuit is a sole motor position timestamp generating component between the first powerpack and the second powerpack of the steer-by-wire system.
