Abstract

A label printer according to an embodiment includes: a transport unit that conveys a label sheet; a ribbon supply unit that supplies an ink ribbon along a transport path; a print head that prints by transferring ink from the ink ribbon onto the label sheet conveyed to a printing position; an acquisition unit that acquires a request signal requesting feeding of the label sheet to the printing position; a determination unit that detects an operating state of the ribbon supply unit driven in response to the request signal and determines whether the ink ribbon is present or absent, based on a detection result; and an output unit that, in a case where the determination unit determines that the ink ribbon is absent, outputs a stop signal to stop the ribbon supply unit and a drive signal to drive the transport unit to feed the label sheet to the printing position.
