Saw system

A saw system comprising:

• a cutter head assembly having:
• a frame,
• at least one drive motor mounted on the frame,
• a first pulley mounted for rotation on the frame and operably engaged with said at least one drive motor whereby said first pulley is driven in rotation by said at least one drive motor,
• at least one rotary driver mounted for rotation on the frame and operably engaged with said at least one drive motor whereby said rotary driver is driven in rotation by said at least one drive motor,
• a second pulley mounted for rotation on the frame and spaced from said first pulley,
• a saw blade extending around said first pulley and said second pulley, and
• a controller configured to control operations of said at least one drive motor;
• a saw bed configured to support a workpiece to be cut during a cutting operation performed by said cutter head assembly;
• at least one radar sensor mounted to one of said cutter head assembly and said saw bed, configured to emit radio waves in a direction toward the other of said cutter head assembly and said saw bed, and configured to receive radio waves previously emitted by said at least one radar sensor and deflected by the other of said cutter head assembly and said saw bed, and configured to one of:
• (i) determine a relative velocity between said cutter head assembly and said saw bed based on received radio waves and transmit the relative velocity to said controller, and
• (ii) transmit raw data associated with received radio waves to said controller;
• and
• wherein said controller is further defined as configured to control operations of said at least one drive motor in response to the one of the relative velocity and the raw data received from said at least one radar sensor.
