Abstract
The present invention restrains a sports net mid-section sag such that the bottom of the sports net does not come into contact with the court surface and maintains a consistent clearance height above the court surface. The present invention comprising a length of polyester mesh designed and adapted to define an open-ended channel into which a bottom band portion of a sports net is inserted and secured. The length of polyester mesh includes a plurality of fasteners operatively attached along its edges such that the bottom band portion of a sports net is restrained upon the plurality of fasteners releasably engaging one another.
Claims12
A sports net restraining device comprising:
- a length of polyester mesh having a length,
- a width,
- a first end and a second end, said first and second ends being parallel to each other,
- an inner side,
- an outer side,
- a first edge extending said length of said length of polyester mesh, said first edge being perpendicular to said first and second ends,
- a second edge extending said length of said length of polyester mesh and being parallel to said first edge, said second edge being perpendicular to said first and second ends,
- a mid-line extending from said first end to said second end of said length of polyester mesh, said mid-line being equidistant and parallel from said first and second edges,
- a first half-width extending from said mid-line to said first edge and defining a first upward fold, and
- a second half-width extending from said mid-line to said second edge and defining a second upward fold,
- said first upward fold, said second upward fold, and said inner side of said length of polyester mesh defining an open-ended channel extending from said first end of said length of polyester mesh to said second end of said length of polyester mesh, wherein said open-ended channel being designed and configured to receive and secure a bottom band portion of a sports net,
- said sports net being generally rectangular and having a top band, a bottom band generally parallel to said top band, a pair of vertical side bands being parallel to each other and perpendicular to said top and bottom bands, and a net mesh bounded and secured by said top and bottom bands and said pair of vertical side bands,
- said net mesh comprising a plurality of vertical braids connecting said top and bottom bands and a plurality of horizontal braids connecting said pair of vertical side bands, wherein said plurality of vertical braids and said plurality of horizontal braids being operatively interwoven with one another,
- said bottom band portion of said sports net comprising a bottom band length of said bottom band and optionally at least one of said plurality of horizontal braids of said net mesh, said at least one of said plurality of horizontal braids of said net mesh being adjacent and proximate to said bottom band of said sports net;
- a plurality of male fasteners being equally spaced and operatively attached and aligned along said first edge of said length of polyester mesh;
- and
- a plurality of female fasteners being equally spaced and operatively attached and aligned along said second edge of said length of polyester mesh, said plurality of female fasteners being positioned opposite of said plurality of male fasteners and designed and constructed to releasably engage said plurality of male fasteners,
- wherein said bottom band portion of said sports net is secured and restrained within said open-ended channel of said length of polyester mesh upon said plurality of female fasteners releasably engaging said plurality of said male fasteners,
- whereby said sports net restraining device becomes detachably attached to said sport net, and
- whereby said sports net has a clearance height above a court surface such that a sports ball can roll beneath said sports net without obstruction.
