Abstract
An inner cannula comprising a round arch portion is proposed, wherein the average wall thickness of the cannula wall at least along a cannula wall longitudinal portion running on the inner arcuate side is at least 40% greater than the average wall thickness of the cannula wall along a longitudinal portion running on the outer arcuate side and lying opposite the longitudinal portion running on the inner arcuate side.

An inner cannula insertable into an outer cannula of a tracheostomy tube, the inner cannula comprising:
- a tubular cannula extending a length longitudinally between a proximal end and an opposite distal end that is insertable into a trachea, the tubular cannula defined by an outer wall;
- a lumen formed along an entire length of the tubular cannula, the lumen defined by an inner wall of the tubular cannula;
- and
- an arched portion located between the proximal end and the distal end of the tubular cannula, with the arched portion formed to include an inner arcuate side of the outer wall and an outer arcuate side of the outer wall, with a length of the outer arcuate side longer than a length of the inner arcuate side;
- wherein an average wall thickness of the tubular cannula measured from the outer wall to the inner wall at a location of the arched portion of the tubular cannula is at least 40% greater on the inner arcuate side than on the outer arcuate side.
