Aspects include a negative pressure wound therapy system and methods for manufacturing a negative pressure wound therapy system. The system comprises a dressing configured to be positioned on a wound site, a hub configured to have aspirational attachment to the dressing, and a pressure engine pre-evacuated to a sub-atmospheric pressure and configured to have aspirational attachment the hub such that the pressure engine is configured to aspirate fluid away from the dressing via a fluid channel extending from the dressing, through the hub, to the pressure engine. Sub-atmospheric pressure in the pressure engine can be achieved by evacuating air from and then sealing the pressure engine, forming the pressure engine in a sub-atmospheric pressure environment and then sealing the pressure engine, or forming the pressure engine in a first environment at sub-atmospheric pressure relative to a second environment and moving the pressure engine to the second environment for use.
