Abstract

System (SYS) and related method for processing projection data for X-ray based tomographic imaging. The system comprises an input interface (IN) for receiving projection imagery acquired by an X-ray based tomographic imaging apparatus (IA) along different projection directions of an anatomical feature (AF) of an object undergoing motion, with transitions through plural motion states. An in-image detection component (DC) detects, in respect of at least one reference path, a motion state of the anatomical feature (AF) based on image information in the projection imagery. A gating component (GC) assigns a subset of the projection imagery to a motion state bin, based on the detected motion state. An output interface (OUT) provides the so assigned subset of projection imagery for reconstruction.
