Abstract
A smart bed includes a mattress including a gel grid. The mattress has an outer top surface defining a sleep surface and side edges. The smart bed also includes at least one sensor positioned at least partially within a hollow column of the gel grid. The hollow column opens toward the outer top surface of the mattress. The smart bed further includes a cover positioned over the outer top surface of the mattress to at least partially enclose the hollow column.

A smart bed, comprising:
- a mattress including a gel grid, the mattress having an outer top surface defining a sleep surface and side edges;
- at least one sensor positioned at least partially within a hollow column of the gel grid, the hollow column opening toward the outer top surface of the mattress;
- and
- a cover positioned over the outer top surface of the mattress to at least partially enclose the hollow column.
