A distributed cryogenic cooling system for computational facilities includes multiple insulated housings containing computational components requiring cryogenic temperatures. Each housing receives ambient-temperature, high-pressure fluid through facility supply lines and returns low-pressure fluid through facility return lines. A shared compression system circulates working fluid throughout the facility. Within each housing, energy-extracting fluid expanders mounted on the housing produce local refrigeration by expanding fluid from high to low pressure, transferring extracted energy outside the housing. An internal fluid bus routes cooled fluid from the expanders to component heat exchangers thermally coupled to computational components. This architecture eliminates vacuum-insulated transfer lines, avoids single-point-of-failure by distributing cooling capability, reduces working fluid inventory, and enables modular repairs of individual housings without system shutdown while maintaining efficient cryogenic cooling for large-scale quantum computers, superconducting circuits, and similar computational systems.
