Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a 5G communication system or a 6G communication system for supporting higher data rates beyond a 4G communication system such as long term evolution (LTE). According to one embodiment of the present disclosure, provided is a method that is performed by a terminal of a wireless communication system. The method comprises the steps of receiving, from a base station, information about a first beam set and a second beam set and information about a first threshold value, determining, on the basis of the measurement results of the first beam set and the second beam set and the first threshold value, whether the terminal is in a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) association, and transmitting, to the base station, information indicating whether the terminal is in the RIS association. On the basis of whether the terminal is in the RIS association, beam sweeping is performed on the basis of any one of the first beam set and the second beam set.

Dependent claims

A method performed by a terminal of a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

receiving, from a base station, information on a first beam set and a second beam set and information on a first threshold value;
determining whether the terminal is in a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) association, based on a measurement result for the first beam set and the second beam set and the first threshold value;
and
transmitting, to the base station, information indicating whether the terminal is in the RIS association,
wherein beam sweeping is performed based on one of the first beam set and the second beam set, depending on whether the terminal is in the RIS association.
