According to the embodiment, a rotor comprises: a rotor shaft; permanent magnets located inside the rotor core and arranged symmetrically with respect to an M-axis, and a rotor core. The rotor core has the electromagnetic steel plates stacked such that the M axes overlap axially, wherein magnetic poles are arranged evenly circumferentially and each magnetic pole includes a flux-barrier band formed substantially convexly toward the rotation center axis and connects one and other of the outer peripheral surface, accommodating the permanent magnets, non-magnetic regions, and bridges. The rotor core has non-magnetic region connecting the outer peripheral surface and permanent magnet. As for the first and second flux barriers, circumferential angle Θq1 is larger than Θq2. when Θd1 is larger than Θd2. An adjacent magnetic pole has a shape about the M-axis of the specified magnetic pole.
