Abstract
The present invention relates to assemblies and method for obtaining a container comprising 212Pb on the walls obtained from a 212Pb precursor isotope source. The invention provides an improved system and method for producing 212Pb in high purity without the need for processing, with high yields, and which safely and efficiently can be transported to the locations where it is to be used.
Claims30
A radioisotope generator, comprising:
- a solid precursor isotope configured to emanate a gaseous progeny isotope, wherein the solid precursor isotope is encapsulated in a porous ceramic material;
- and
- a container comprising a collector surface,
- wherein the solid precursor isotope is configured to be positioned within the container without contacting the collector surface,
- wherein the solid precursor isotope is configured to be fluidly coupled to the collector surface by a gas tight seal, and
- wherein, when the solid precursor isotope is fluidly coupled to the collector surface, the gaseous progeny isotope emanates from the solid precursor isotope and deposits a solid progeny isotope on the collector surface.

A radioisotope generator, comprising:
- a solid precursor isotope configured to emanate a gaseous progeny isotope, wherein the solid precursor isotope comprises a thorium 228 isotope (228Th) and/or a radium 224 isotope (224Ra);
- a rod configured to hold the solid precursor isotope, wherein the rod is configured to slide between an open position and a closed position;
- a tube configured to receive the rod, wherein the rod includes at least one O-ring configured to form a gas tight seal with the tube when the rod is in the closed position;
- and
- a container comprising a collector surface,
- wherein, when the rod is in the open position, the solid precursor isotope is exposed to the collector surface without contacting the collector surface, and the gaseous progeny isotope emanates from the solid precursor isotope and deposits a solid progeny isotope comprising a lead 212 isotope (212Pb) on the collector surface, and
- wherein, when the rod is in the closed position, the solid precursor isotope is isolated from the collector surface of the container by the gas tight seal.

A radioisotope generator, comprising:
- a solid precursor isotope configured to emanate a gaseous progeny isotope, wherein the solid precursor isotope is encapsulated in a porous ceramic material;
- and
- a container comprising a collector surface,
- wherein the solid precursor isotope is configured to be positioned within the container without contacting the collector surface,
- wherein the radioisotope generator comprises a gas tight seal that blocks fluid coupling between the solid precursor isotope positioned within the container and the collector surface,
- wherein the solid precursor isotope is configured to be fluidly coupled to the collector surface by unsealing the gas tight seal, and
- wherein, when the solid precursor isotope is fluidly coupled to the collector surface, the gaseous progeny isotope emanates from the solid precursor isotope and deposits a solid progeny isotope on the collector surface.
