Monitoring device, method, and storage medium

A method performed by a monitoring device connectable to a self-service point of sale (POS) terminal installed in a store, the method comprising:

• acquiring activity information related to an item sold at the store and to be purchased by a customer and received from the POS terminal together with identification information of the POS terminal, the activity information including scan information related to scanning of the item by a scanner of the POS terminal and a video obtained by capturing an activity related to the item and performed by the customer at the POS terminal;
• detecting a position and a head orientation of the customer from the video;
• determining whether the customer is committing fraud based on the activity information and the position and the head orientation of the customer;
• and
• upon determining that the customer is committing fraud, causing the POS terminal to issue a notification.

A non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing a program for causing a processor of a monitoring device connectable to a self-service point of sale (POS) terminal installed in a store to perform a process comprising:

• acquiring activity information related to an item sold at the store and to be purchased by a customer and received from the POS terminal together with identification information of the POS terminal, the activity information including scan information related to scanning of the item by a scanner of the POS terminal and a video obtained by capturing an activity related to the item and performed by the customer at the POS terminal;
• detecting a position and a head orientation of the customer from the video;
• determining whether the customer is committing fraud based on the activity information and the position and the head orientation of the customer;
• and
• upon determining that the customer is committing fraud, outputting a notification to the POS terminal.
