A computer-implemented process and software interface components that assist an author in authoring structured papers academic or professional papers by providing discrete work areas for the gathering of materials (e.g., notes, bibliographic references, quotations), and the creation, organization, evolution, refinement, and harmonization of its foundation components (i.e., its title, topic statement, abstract, thesis, outline, discussion structure, texts, and citations). The invention automates the processes heretofore managed by index cards, sticky notes, and 3-hole punched paper, offering multiple and distinct timesaving and safekeeping advantages over analog storage and organizational means and methods. This convenience stems from the input data types being grouped into several grids rather than in the form of the final paper.
