System, Method, and Computer Program Product for Automatically Mapping Citations to Documents

A system comprising:

• at least one processor configured to:
• parse a textual document to identify a plurality of document citations, each document citation of the plurality of document citations comprising a document identifier and a pinpoint citation, each document citation corresponding to an assertion of a plurality of assertions in the textual document;
• determine, with at least one machine-learning model, at least one candidate document from a plurality of documents for each document identifier in the plurality of document citations;
• determine a document from the plurality of documents based on the at least one candidate document for each document identifier of the plurality of document citations;
• determine a mapping between each pinpoint citation from the plurality of document citations and a pinpoint citation from the document corresponding to the document identifier for each document citation of the plurality of document citations;
• and
• link the document and the pinpoint citation from the document to at least one document citation of the plurality of document citations in the textual document.

A computer program product comprising at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium including program instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to:

• parse a textual document to identify a plurality of document citations, each document citation of the plurality of document citations comprising a document identifier and a pinpoint citation, each document citation corresponding to an assertion of a plurality of assertions in the textual document;
• determine, with at least one machine-learning model, at least one candidate document from a plurality of documents for each document identifier in the plurality of document citations;
• determine a document from the plurality of documents based on the at least one candidate document for each document identifier of the plurality of document citations;
• determine a mapping between each pinpoint citation from the plurality of document citations and a pinpoint citation from the document corresponding to the document identifier for each document citation of the plurality of document citations;
• and
• link the document and the pinpoint citation from the document to at least one document citation of the plurality of document citations in the textual document.
