Onboarding of compute cluster to backup system using an agent

An apparatus, comprising:

• one or more memories storing processor-executable code;
• and
• one or more processors coupled with the one or more memories and individually or collectively operable to execute the code to cause the apparatus to:
• execute, by a data management system, a command that applies a manifest file to a host computing cluster, wherein the manifest file defines a backup agent that is to be installed on the host computing cluster;
• receive, from the backup agent in accordance with the manifest file being applied to the host computing cluster, information indicative of the backup agent being installed on the host computing cluster;
• receive, by the data management system after receiving the information, a first request to back up the host computing cluster;
• transmit, to the backup agent installed on the host computing cluster and in response to receiving the first request to back up the host computing cluster, a second request for data of the host computing cluster;
• and
• receive, from the backup agent after transmitting the second request for data, data of the host computing cluster.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing code, the code comprising instructions executable by one or more processors to:

• execute, by a data management system, a command that applies a manifest file to a host computing cluster, wherein the manifest file defines a backup agent that is to be installed on the host computing cluster;
• receive, from the backup agent in accordance with the manifest file being applied to the host computing cluster, information indicative of the backup agent being installed on the host computing cluster;
• receive, by the data management system after receiving the information, a first request to back up the host computing cluster;
• transmit, to the backup agent installed on the host computing cluster and in response to receiving the first request to back up the host computing cluster, a second request for data of the host computing cluster;
• and
• receive, from the backup agent after transmitting the second request for data, data of the host computing cluster.
