System and method for closed lid interface for a laptop type information handling system

A method of controlling an information handling system with a closed lid interface system comprising:

• detecting, via a lid sensor, a closed lid orientation of a display device lid chassis relative to a base chassis of the information handling system to activate a closed lid interface system for quick access controls at the information handling system in the closed lid orientation;
• detecting a sensor actuation with a user's actuation of an interface panel in the outer surface of the display device lid chassis to actuate a sensor structure comprising a plurality of actuation sensors disposed under a bottom surface of the interface panel of the closed lid interface system, wherein a display panel forms an inner surface of the display device lid chassis;
• receiving the sensor actuation from a user interaction on an interface panel from at least one of the plurality of actuation sensors formed under the interface panel and received at an operatively coupled printed circuit board and a hardware microcontroller driver disposed under the outer surface of the display device lid chassis, wherein the interface panel is a designated portion of the outer surface of the display lid device chassis formed of the same material as a remaining portion of the outer surface of the display device lid chassis;
• executing computer-readable program code of a closed lid interface control module, via an embedded controller, to translate the sensor actuation due to the user interaction from the hardware microcontroller driver into an input command for a quick access control for the information handling system executing in the closed lid orientation;
• adjusting closed lid operation of the information handling system, via the hardware processor, pursuant to the input command translated from the received sensor actuation at the closed lid interface system;
• and
• detecting opening of the display device lid chassis relative to the base chassis, via the lid sensor, and suspending operation of the closed lid interface system, via the hardware microcontroller driver, when the information handling system is not in the closed lid orientation.

An information handling system with a closed lid interface system comprising:

• a hardware processor, a memory, and a power source to provide power to the hardware processor and the memory;
• a display device lid chassis including a display screen of a digital display device forming an inner surface of the display device lid chassis;
• a lid sensor detecting a closed lid orientation of a display device lid chassis relative to a base chassis of the information handling system to activate the closed lid interface system;
• the closed lid interface system having a sensor structure comprising a capacitive sensor disposed at the base chassis of the information handling system, wherein the sensor structure detects a sensor actuation with a user's actuation of the display device lid chassis relative to the base chassis that is a squeeze or press on an outer surface of the display device lid chassis when the display device lid chassis is closed with respect to the base chassis of the information handling system;
• the sensor structure operatively coupled to a hardware microcontroller driver to receive the sensor actuation from the capacitive sensor in the base chassis from the squeeze or press on outer surface of the display device lid chassis;
• an embedded controller executing computer-readable program code of a closed lid interface control module to translate the sensor actuation of the capacitive sensor disposed in the base chasses from the user's actuation of the outer surface of the display device lid chassis relative to the base chassis that is the squeeze or press on the outer surface of the display device lid chassis the hardware microcontroller driver into an input command for the information handling system executing in the closed lid orientation;
• and
• the hardware processor to adjust closed lid operation of the information handling system from the input command translated from the received sensor actuation at the closed lid interface system.
