System, method, and apparatus for electric power grid and network management of grid elements

A system for electric power grid element and network management comprising:

• at least one coordinator configured for Internet Protocol (IP)-based network communication with at least one server and at least one grid element;
• wherein the at least one coordinator is operable to send messages to and/or receive messages from the at least one grid element and the at least one server;
• wherein the at least one grid element includes at least one energy storage device or at least one battery for storing electric power;
• wherein the at least one coordinator communicates at least one registration message to the at least one server for registration of the at least one grid element with an electric power grid;
• wherein the at least one coordinator automatically and/or autonomously transforms the at least one grid element into at least one active grid element following the registration with the electric power grid;
• wherein the at least one coordinator receives a status response message from the at least one active grid element in response to a status request message;
• wherein the status response message includes operational information for the at least one active grid element;
• wherein the messages include change in state messages including a delta for a value associated with the at least one active grid element relative to a previous report for the value;
• wherein the delta for the value is a change in the value relative to the previous report for the value;
• wherein the messages further include a measured quantity corresponding to an increase in power supply of the at least one active grid element;
• and
• wherein the at least one coordinator is operable to provide control of the at least one active grid element and/or electric grid operations comprising at least one of energy flows within the electric power grid, grid stabilization, operating reserves, and/or capacity.

A method for electric power grid network management, comprising:

• at least one coordinator communicating via Internet Protocol (IP)-based network communication with at least one server and at least one grid element;
• the at least one coordinator sending messages to and/or receiving messages from the at least one grid element and the at least one server;
• the at least one grid element including at least one energy storage device or at least one battery for storing electric power;
• the at least one coordinator communicating a registration message to the at least one server for registration of the at least one grid element with an electric power grid;
• the at least one coordinator automatically and/or autonomously transforming the at least one grid element into at least one active grid element following the registration with the electric power grid;
• the at least one coordinator receiving a status response message from the at least one active grid element in response to a status request message;
• the status response message including operational information for the at least one active grid element;
• the messages including change in state messages including a delta for a value associated with the at least one active grid element relative to a previous report for the value;
• the delta for the value representing a change in the value relative to the previous report for the value;
• the messages further including a measured quantity corresponding to an increase in power supply of the at least one active grid element;
• and
• the at least one coordinator providing control of electric grid operations comprising at least one of energy flows within the electric power grid, grid stabilization, operating reserves, and/or capacity.

A method for electric power grid network management, comprising:

• at least one coordinator communicating via Internet Protocol (IP)-based network communication with at least one server and at least one grid element;
• the at least one coordinator sending messages to and/or receiving messages from the at least one grid element and the at least one server;
• the at least one coordinator communicating a registration message to the at least one server for registration of the at least one grid element with an electric power grid;
• the at least one coordinator automatically transforming the at least one grid element into a corresponding at least one active grid element for functioning actively within the electric power grid following the registration;
• the at least one coordinator receiving a status response message from the at least one active grid element in response to a status request message;
• the status response message including operational information for the at least one active grid element;
• the at least one server communicating the operational information to an energy management system;
• the at least one server receiving confirmation from the energy management system that the operational information is compliant with standards for an ancillary services award;
• the at least one server communicating the confirmation to the at least one coordinator;
• and
• the at least one coordinator providing control of electric grid operations comprising at least one of energy flows within the electric power grid, grid stabilization, operating reserves, and/or capacity;
• wherein the messages include change in state messages including a delta for a value associated with the at least one active grid element relative to a previous report for the value;
• wherein the delta for the value is a change in the value relative to the previous report for the value;
• and
• wherein the messages further include a measured quantity corresponding to an increase in power supply of the at least one active grid element.
