Abstract
A system can include one or more phase encoders. Each phase encoder of the one or more phase encoders is configured to receive an optical signal from an optical signal generator that generated the optical signal, and generate, using a ring resonator having a resonant frequency, a phase-encoded signal by encoding auxiliary information into a phase of the optical signal.
Claims20
A system comprising:
- a first component configured to:
- receive an optical signal;
- generate a phase-encoded optical signal by performing phase dithering to encode, into a phase of the optical signal, auxiliary information comprising health-related information associated with the system;
- and
- transmit the phase-encoded optical signal comprising the auxiliary information to a second component to perform one or more actions related to system health, wherein the auxiliary information is transmitted in-band as part of the phase-encoded optical signal.

A system comprising:
- a first component configured to:
- receive an optical signal;
- generate a phase-encoded optical signal by performing phase dithering to encode, into a phase of the optical signal, auxiliary information comprising an error correction code;
- and
- transmit the phase-encoded optical signal comprising the auxiliary information to a second component to correct an error in data carried by the optical signal, wherein the auxiliary information is transmitted in-band as part of the phase-encoded optical signal.
2 more elements
A system comprising:
- a component configured to:
- receive a phase-encoded optical signal having auxiliary information encoded into a phase of an optical signal, wherein the auxiliary information is received in-band as part of the phase-encoded optical signal and comprises at least one of:
- health-related information associated with one or more components of the system, or an error correction code;
- and
- use a self-heterodyne interference detection method to obtain the auxiliary information from the phase-encoded optical signal.
