Abstract
According to one aspect, a magnetic flux concentrator includes: a ferromagnetic material having a loop shape interrupted by an air gap region and forming a central opening, wherein the air gap region includes a first side having at least two protrusions and a second side having at least one protrusion interleaved with, and not in mechanical contact with, the protrusions of the first side. According to another aspect, a sensor utilizes such a magnetic flux concentrator to detect a difference in current between two conductors.
Claims19
A magnetic flux concentrator comprising:
- a ferromagnetic material having a loop shape interrupted by an air gap region and forming a central opening,
- wherein the air gap region includes a first side having at least two protrusions and a second side having at least one protrusion interleaved with, and not in mechanical contact with, the protrusions of the first side.
A system comprising:
- first and second magnetic field sensing elements both supported by a substrate and both having an axis of maximum sensitivity parallel to the substrate;
- and
- a magnetic flux concentrator having an air gap region comprising at least a first air gap positioned above or below the first magnetic field sensing element and a second air gap positioned above or below the second magnetic field sensing element, the magnetic flux concentrator configured to generate a differential magnetic field about the first and second magnetic field sensing elements and parallel to the substrate.
